Tailored specifically for rapidly fitting statistical shape models to medical images, this software is an ideal companion for regular tasks such as model-based segmentation and implant fitting.
Supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), in this project we developed a system called “iLeg” that allowed reconstructing a patient-specific 3D models of the complete lower extremity from clinically available X-rays for true 3D planning and evaluation of surgical interventions of the lower extremity.
Supported interventions include lower extremity osteotomy and total knee arthroplasty (TKA).
Starting from a limited number (e.g., 2) of X-rays of a lower extremity, our system can reconstruct 3D patient-specific models of both femur and tibia, which then allows for computing various geometric and morphological parameters of the lower extremity in a weight-bearing situation.
The derived 3D patient-specific models of the lower extremity also allow us to plan and simulate surgical interventions.
